The organizers of Felabration have just released some exciting news!
This year’s edition of the annual music festival Felaberation, dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, will take place from Monday, October 9 to Sunday, October 15, 2023.
The announcement was made in Lagos in the early hours of Friday, June 16, 2023.
The theme for this year’s Felabration is ‘Question Jam Answer,’ which happens to be a classic record composed by Fela and released back in 1972. It’s a fitting choice considering the current socio-political climate in our country, where people are searching for answers to the questions raised during the intriguing general election.
Felabration 2023 aims to showcase the authenticity, vibrancy, and resilience of African music, art, dance, and fashion. It’s going to be a fantastic event that brings together diverse talents and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of our continent.
As always, the Felaberation festival will feature a range of activities, including The Senior Secondary Schools Debate, The Fela Debates (Symposium), The Afrobics Dance Competition, The Artwork Competition, The Dress Fela Fashion Competition, The Musical Concert, and many more. There will be something for everyone to enjoy and participate in!
Additionally, the concert will bring together some of the most prominent music stars from Nigeria as well as international artists, all set to perform at the iconic New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos.
Furthermore, Felabration is going to be an extraordinary week-long celebration that pays tribute to the remarkable legacy of Fela, the creator of Afrobeat music and a prominent advocate for human rights which was originally conceptualized in 1998 by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti by one of the children of the legendary singer Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
