Don’t Approve Emefiele’s Bail, DSS, OAGF Tells Court
Recall, that the former head of the apex bank, was suspended by President Tinubu and subsequently picked up and detained by the DSS, while trying to flee the country on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
As the hearing continued on Tuesday, both DSS and OAGF stated these in seperate counter-affidavits filed in a fundamental rights enforcement suit by Emefiele.
The OAGF in its own counter affidavit, dismissed the allegation made, that the former CBN chief was being held as a result of offences bordering on terrorism, nor on his role in the botched naira redesign policy.
“Issues of Terrorism financing and fraudulent activities are not part of the grounds for the arrest and detention of the applicant.
The OAGF continued that, “The respondents did not subject the applicant to any judicial adjudication to warrant the allegation of denial of a fair hearing.”
The OAGF also debunk the news that the former ex-CBN boss has been subjected to varying degrees of torture while being held in the DSS net.
On its part, The DSS said that Emefiele was being held pursuant to an order of a competent court.
According to them, The ex-CBN chief was being held “upon reasonable suspicion of commiting acts which constitute a criminal breach of trusts, incitement to violence, criminal misappropriation of public funds, economic sabotage, economic crimes of national security dimension and undermining the security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
